I first noticed the skimmers on Feb. 26, 2018. Following two days off, they reappeared today, Mar. 1. Their numbers, frequency and length of stay have diminished over the past few years so I was happy to see them reappear. A group of 30 surrounded a lone Royal Tern on the sand between Redondo and Loma Avenues, just west of the pier.

Two Sage Thrashers were seen from the Brightwater Trail above Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve.
American Oystercatchers are usually found in Baja and points south, and along the eastern US. This one was seen today in Alamitos Bay. (click here for additional photos)
Not often seen in Southern California, this Eastern Kingbird was spotted near the Colorado Lagoon golf course on July 6, 2014.
