Red-flanked Bluetail, Los Angeles (Part 2)

People have been flying in from all over the U.S. to see this extremely rare visitor who’s way out of its normal range. See my original post with more photos below. The bird decided to make the William Clark Library in Los Angeles its temporary home in the winter of 2019.

Black Skimmer, Long Beach

Lone Royal Tern in Long Beach

This Royal Tern was hanging out with 30 Black Skimmers.

Black Skimmers return to Long Beach

I first noticed the skimmers on Feb. 26, 2018.  Following two days off, they reappeared today, Mar. 1.  Their numbers, frequency and length of stay have diminished over the past few years so I was happy to see them reappear.  A group of 30 surrounded a lone Royal Tern on the sand between Redondo and Loma Avenues, just west of the pier.
